SOMALIA: Meeting in southern Somalia town “Kismaayo” plans to isolate Puntland administration

Preparations are taking place in Kismaayo, Lower Jubba Region, to hold a meeting to be attended by regional administrations and the federal government.

The meeting is organized by President Hasan Shaykh Mahmud and the newly-elected southwestern regional President Sharif Hasan Shaykh Adan and will be attended by Somali and foreign delegates.

The meeting is to establish a form of political alliance by Jubba, southwestern regional administrations and the federal government. Members of the intenational community will be invited to witness how the regional administrations had confidence in the federal government.
Puntland administration has not been invited to the meeting. This is to show the world that the regional administrations in the country were in support of the the federal government and its operations except Puntland which is to be portrayed as a problematic administration opposed to Somalia government.
The meeting is expected to be held in Kismaayo towards the end of December and will last for a number of days.
Meanwhile, relations between Puntland and Jubbaland administration has been completely severed since the leader of Jubbaland, Ahmad Madobe, changed the political direction of his administration.
The leader of Jubbaland, Ahmad Madobe, and the president of Puntland, Abdiweli Gas, held talks twice this month on the motion against Prime Minister Abdiweli and the meeting to be held in Kismaayo but the talks ended in failure on both occasions.
Puntland had lent financial and moral support to the formation of Jubbaland administration and until now provides medical treatment to Jubbaland soldiers wounded in fighting. Jubbaland will therefore be the loser as a result of the current disagreement.
