SOMALIA: Galmudug leader rejects comments from Puntland, defends formation of central administration

Cabdi-qeybdiid

Mogadishu: The leader of Galmudug administration Abdi Hassan Awale Qeybdid has rejected recent comments made by the President of Puntland Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas following the disputed formation of the Central Administration in Somalia.

Mr Qeybdid defended the motive behind the formation of the new state as a Federal Member State saying that the aim was to stop anarchy and lawlessness in the most conflict-born regions of Somalia.
“I do not believe as President Abdiweli Gaas said.  I believe that the formation of the new Central State is something came from the people of those regions who have shown their commitment to get peace and law.” President of Galmudug said.
He added that the establishment of the new state was made sure that it was inline with the Federal Constitution which allows that “two regions or more can form their administration if hey agree”.
Puntland President Abdiweli Gaas last week criticized the formation of the new central state which was fully endorsed by the Federal Government of Somalia and the International Community backing the government.
Puntland also suspended uts ties with Mogadishu two weeks ago following the announcement made by the Federal Government to create a Federal Member State for Mudug and Galgadud regions.  Puntland says Mudug region is currently part of its territory.
But President Abdi Qeybdid warned what he said incitement of fresh clannish violence within the community in the central regions.
