SOMALIA: Six MPs from Puntland withdraw from Somalia Federal Parliament

Garowe: Six parliamentarians from Puntland have withdrawn from the Federal Parliament of Somalia following call from the President of Puntland Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas over the weekend.


The six Members of the Federal Parliament on Saturday landed in Garowe, the capital of Puntland State of Somalia.
MP Hassan Abshir Farah said they returned to Puntland to hold consultations with their constituencies and to support the cal from Puntland President Abdiweli Ali Gaas.
“As we have heard the call we decided to come,” MP Abshir added speaking to the reporters at Garowe Airport.
Among the six MPs who have returned to Garowe are Mohamed Abdi Yusuf, a veteran parliamentarian and politician.
Two days ago, President Gaas has called the representatives at the Mogadishu-based Federal Government hailing from Puntland to withdraw following fresh dispute between the federal government and Puntland.  He alleged the federal government has endorsed the formation of new illegal state in Mudug and Galgudud regions, central Somalia which also members if the international community endorsed.
Members of Puntland cabinet ministers and other government officials have welcome the returned parliamentarians to Garowe as they were escorted to the presidency of Puntland where President Abdiweli Gaas received them.
“We are pleased the MPs for accepting our call to withdraw from the parliament,” President Gaas said speaking to the press at the Garowe Presidency.
He said the returned MPs and the officials of Puntland will hold consultations in the coming days.
