Mogadishu: The Governor of Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region Abdukadir Nur Siidii has unfolded that Somali National Army and the African Union Forces [AMISOM] are planning to flush out the Al Qaeda-linked militant group from their strongholds in the region including Barawe town.
Mr Siidii has told local media that Barawe town, the biggest stronghold for the militant group has become the prime target of the fresh joint operation because of its high value for the peace and stability of the nation.

“As you know Barawe is the biggest base they are now using.  This is the town where they plan and organize the criminal attacks they carry out, even the Boko Haram group which is fighting in Nigeria has their office there.” Mr Siidii said in an interview.
The governor declined to give specific time for the operation as he said such operations are carried under special plan and that it still remain as top secret.
“We are committed to secure this town. I hop our people on the region will have good time to celebrate this victory very soon.” he added.
When asked about the already liberated cities and districts in the region which were blocked by Al Shabab, Mr Siidii said some of the districts including Qoryoley were cleared from roadblocks set up by Al Shabab.
