SOMALIA: I am concerned by the military tensions between Puntland and Somaliland, says UN envoy

Ambassador Nicholas Kay, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia has expressed great concern over the military tensions between Puntland and Somaliland in the Sool and Sanag regions.
Mr Kay has told the 425th meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council that he called a maximum avoidance of confrontation by the both sides.
“..to the north, I am also concerned by the military tensions between Puntland and Somaliland in the Sool and Sanaag regions. I call for maximum caution and avoidance of confrontation.” He said.
On Sunday Puntland officially declared it sent its troops into the Sanag region after Somaliland deployed its troops in the Baran district on the eastern Sanag days before.
Both Somaliland and Puntland dispute over the ownership of the regions of Sool and Sanag on the north of the country.
