Garowe: The Minister of Information and Culture of Puntland State of Somalia Abdiweli Hersi Indhaguran has warned what he termed as a growing blatant aggression by its neighboring administration of Somaliland after deploying more troops in the Sanag region, RBC Radio reports.
In a press conference in Garowe, the seat of Puntland government, the minister said “Puntland will have its rights as a state under Somalia’s Federal Government to defend its citizens and borders”.
On Saturday, Somaliland administration begun to deploy more newly trained forces in the disputed area of Baran, in the east of Sanag region.  The deployment came days after Somaliland president Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo paid first ever first in Lasqoray district of Sanag region, which is a district claimed by both Puntland and Somaliland.
“We are going that the neighboring administration is making a lot of pretexts to attack and seize Puntland owned towns, so that nothing stops us to counter them and defend our land.” the minister added.
Somaliland minister who reacted to the Puntland’s statement said the forces deployed in the area of Baran were those previously based in the region.
He has rebuffed the claim from Puntland of the ownership of Lasqoray and Baran towns in the Sanag region.
According to sources in Bosasso town, Puntland on its side begun to deploy its troops in the same area, a move which could hasten  potential fresh armed clashes between the two administrations.
