SOMALIA: Gov’t army backed by AU forces seize Wabxo town from Al Shabab

Somali government army backed by the African Union Forces in Somalia seized Wabxo town from Al Shabab fighters.
The seizure came after two days fierce gun battle between the sides in the past days resulting heavy lose of lives.

Both sides claim victory of the two days fight which mainly occurred between the towns of Wabxo, Maxas and Elbur.

Deputy governor of Galgadud region Abdihakim Abdullahi told the local media that the joint forces eventually liberated the ton of Wabxo from Al Shabab.  He said the security forces started to clear mines and explosives left by the militants in the town.

The Deputy Governor dismissed claims from Al Shabab saying they killed Ethiopian and Somali soldiers in the battle.

Meanwhile Al Shabab spokesman Ali Mohamud Rage [Ali Dhere] said the Al Qaeda linked fighters killed Ethiopian forces of the African Union Forces on the outskirts of Wabxo town.

Locals who spoke with local media said the combatants of Al Shabab fled to the nearby villages as the joint forces entered the strategic town in central Somalia on Sunday.
